The Weekly PRST Is Here | Vol. 1

Hey there,

I've done something with The Weekly PRST that I have never done before--I let the desire to have the perfect format, landing page, and game plan lead to procrastination. Typically, I get an idea and I run with it. But I really want PRST to get off to a good start so I've been intentional with the launch--maybe a little too intentional.

Last week I finally decided it was time to create a basic landing page, start telling folks about the newsletter, and commit to a publish date. The newsletter, landing pages, and growth strategy can evolve and improve along the way. While it's important to plan when you embark on a new experiment/journey/chapter, it's also important to just get started--hit send, record, publish, or whatever command puts things into motion.

Today, I hit send.

I couldn't be more excited to have added the Weekly PRST to the library of PRST content.

What To Expect

Each week I'll be dropping by your inbox to bring content to you that will help you on your Pursuit. I'll also be sharing some of my own thoughts, experiences, and original content. The Weekly PRST will serve as a complement to The Daily PRST, On Our PRST, and The PRST podcasts.

As I've been on my own Pursuit, I've come across tons of great people, books, podcasts, and videos that have been impactful and I continue to find more. Rather than keep them to myself, I want to share them with you and I hope we eventually can discuss and compare notes--I have a clear vision for PRST, which I will share in time.

For now, lets get to The Weekly PRST...

This Week's Top PRST

The most listened to and watched episode this week was the first episode of On Our PRST featuring Tyler Galbraith who just happens to be the creative director behind all of the PRST podcast videos. Tyler's story embodies everything PRST is about--it's almost like we were meant to get connected. Enjoy his story and be inspired to find opportunities in your life to bring your passion(s) more to the center of your life.

PassionRelationshipsSelfTime

Each week this section will consist of curated blog posts, articles, podcasts, videos, etc. that address Passion, Relationships, Self, and Time--the components of PRST.

This Ted Talk by Bronnie Ware will leave you examining your time, money, and energy. The title of the talk is Regret-Free Living, which fits PRST's mantra to "minimize regret". I hope one day Bronnie will join me for an episode of On Our PRST--let's see if I can manifest that episode!

The people in your life will be a very important part of your Pursuit. You have the opportunity to surround yourself with people who will help support you, challenge you to grow, innovate, and progress on your Pursuit. Or, you can surround yourself with people who will doubt you, tell you that you can't achieve your goals, and hold you back from your Pursuit. It's up to you to decide who you will roll with.

Yung Pueblo is one of my favorite authors and this Instagram post was made for PRST.

Years ago a friend of mine told me about Wim Hof and his breathing techniques. I ignored it after watching one video--it wasn't for me. When I first started practicing meditation I quickly realized controlling my breathing was not one of my strengths. I struggled with breathing in for a 10 count and then out for another 10 count; I'm embarrassed to admit I got frustrated and never worked on improving the skill.

Fast forward to 2022.

After recently talking to another financial advisor who told me how breath work had been a game changer for him, I decided to make an effort to improve my breathing. I started using the Open app for my daily meditation practice. The app includes breath work classes, which have been perfect for an introduction and that advisor kindly sent me a copy of the book Breath by James Nestor. I'm really excited to read the book and gain a better understanding of how our breathing can improve our health, which will ultimately help us on our Pursuit. Although I haven't read the book yet (it's next up on my list), I'm comfortable recommending it.

I'd also recommend this Modern Wisdom podcast with James Nestor. Give this a listen before ordering the book and you'll be hitting up Amazon to place an order.

The Obstacle Is The Way by Ryan Holiday was my introduction to Stoicism. I don't remember how I found the book but I do remember identifying with most of what I read. I immediately started reading more of Holiday's work and purchased The Daily Stoic. Since I've read everything Holiday has written, including his non-Stoic books.

I'll save the introduction to Stoicism, if you aren't aware of what it is, to the books below. I don't plan on turning PRST into another Stoic newsletter but I will set the expectation that many of the principles and famous writers will show up throughout the newsletters, podcasts, and videos.

The Stoics often wrote about our mortality and how we should not waste our Time. Seneca's essay On The Shortness Of Life is full of reminders and ideas to think about as you examine how you are allocating your time and where it might be better served on your Pursuit.

"It's not that we have a short time to live, but that we waste a lot of it."

This Week Of PRST

The Daily PRST. In this week's episodes you'll:

  • Hear about Lexi Yoo, an entrepreneur who went from nurse, to nutritional coach, to founding a ground breaking direct health care business.

  • Be challenged to map our your ideal day--every detail possible.

  • Learn how to avoid being a victim. Inspired by Donald Miller's new book Hero On A Mission, the victim is one of the characters we can play in our personal story and it is the one we should try to avoid the most.

  • Be reminded you're not the only person to fight imposter syndrome.

Check out all of the episodes here.

The PRST. In this week's episode I'm joined by a guest. Dr. Preston Cherry, a fellow financial advisor, joined me to discuss the book The Alchemist. I won't say any more about this great conversation--go check it out now!

PRST Shorts. The third short was a spur of the moment video highlighting my youngest, Silas' passion for being outside and letting his imagination run. The Shorts have gotten their start with my family but I'll be moving on to other individuals making their passions a bigger part of their lives and creating a more fulfilled and happy life.

Watch Infinite Imagination

Well, that concludes Vol.1 of The Weekly PRST. Don't be surprised if the format changes a little week to week. Just like our Pursuit requires us to experiment, finding the right format and mix of content will require a little testing and experimenting. Please feel free to hit reply and let me know what you like, what you don't particularly care for, and what you'd like to see.

Have a great week and don't forget to tune in to the podcasts for this week's episodes and I'll see you back here next Saturday.

Keep Pursuing,

Justin
