the difference between “act as if” and “embodying your future self” | The PRST
I remember being told to present myself as if I were already “successful” in my first job out of college. If I looked successful then people would assume I was and would be more willing to work with me. This included a recommendation to buy a nice car, custom suits, and an expensive watch. Thankfully, I didn’t buy into that story and quickly moved on to a new employer.
There are a lot of people who “act as if”, especially with social media consuming most people’s free time and energy. While many are knowingly pretending to be something they are not, there are some who believe if they “act” like the future version of themself then it will eventually come to be. While I won’t say it can’t happen, a different (and more authentic) approach will lead to becoming the future version you envision and have a greater chance of lasting…embodying your future self.
“Acting as if” is a material and external way of attempting to represent another version of your Self.
“Embodying” is an emotional and internal way of pulling from your future Self.
Tune in to hear more and why you are more likely to become who you want to become when you focus on the emotional and internal belief of your Self, not the external representation.
